Abstract :The import of livestock products under the WTO system have increased and it is expected to expand with the increasing consumption. Under this circumstances, the Japanese livestock raising association has been putting various efforts for the management survival. At present, producers are aiming at the freshness of livestock products, safety, and value added livestock products as the strategy to their survival. There is a wide range of price differences in beef according to the quality of beef. Therefore, the price is determined by the differentiation of quality and ranking according to marbling of meat. There is not a special standard procedure established by branded beef production centers to evaluate the quality of beef. Each area formed their own organization to evaluate the standard of branded beef. The rate of branded beef production increased along with the rapid increasing demand for beef in 1960's. At present, 16% of the beef produced in the country is belong to the so called branded beef. However, it is not clear the role of branded beef in the livestock products food system. Therefore, study is to understand the present and future state of the circulation of branded beef in the livestock products food system in the Tokai region.
